‘Beyond the Chalkboard’ is a serious game that explores the challenges of mental health in university life. Sam, the main character of the game, has to deal with the typical stresses of studying and everyday life. The game is primarily aimed at teaching staff, but can also be played by all interested university members.
What started as a semester project was taken up by the TH Cologne's "Center for Academic Development" (ZLE in german), which we were then commissioned to continue polishing up and getting ready for a hand-in at the German Game Award (Deutscher Computerspielpreis). My main role was primarily Tech Art, I spent most of my time building the scribbly crosshatched toon shader used for the environments in the game, which I also modeled out in Blender.
